The adenoid gland is one of several patches of immune tissue in the nose and throat area. Enlarged adenoids are most common in children but may develop or persist into adulthood. Given its location, on the back wall of the nasal cavity, any enlargement of the adenoids can result in nasal blockage and contribute to more serious conditions such as obstructive sleep apnoea.

POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Nasal discharge is common following surgery, this can be addressed with regular saline nasal rinsing

  • Oral antibiotics will usually be prescribed for 1 week after surgery

  • Discomfort is generally minimal but mild pain relief may be used as required
